There are many reasons to use automatic or manual balancing valves.
Some symptoms of badly balanced heating/cooling systems are:
• NoiseProblems
• InsucientCapacity
• Poor/inaccuratecontrol
• Longstart-uptimes
• Energywastage
Balancing valves can provide a solution to all of these problems providing an
economical and cost effective solution to common hydronic problems.
There are two main types of system, each of them present differing challenges
when it comes to balancing the system:
1. Constant Flow
Involves the use of a 3 port valve and a bypass, to maintain the flow around a
system when there is no demand from the terminal units. In these systems, the
overall flow remains constant.
2. Variable Flow
Involves the use of 2 port valves to shut off the flow to the terminal units when
there is no demand. In these systems the overall flow varies depending on
demand for heating or cooling.
